Drifter

Green meadows, bright hills
A dark valley
A timeless river flowed still
Drifting in the river
I looked up at the blue yonder
A limitless infinity stretched
Beyond the thoughts I ponder
An abrupt yellow flashed my eyes
I looked at the bank
And beheld the sight

She stood by the shore
Hir skirt swirled
She wore a hat
Her eyes lowered
She raised her gaze
Ever so slow
Grief in one eye
Longing in other
A solitary tear rolls down
My heart is bothered

She reached out with her hand
I lunged forward
Drifting away farther
Benevolent struggles
Thrashing water
She was half in the river
With desperation and dread
She looked like a fantasy
Her face divine,
Her eyes were red

I have walked in the darkness
For far too long
I cannot be saved
Instead hear this song
Motionless I watched
Motionless I drifted
She looked at me with despair
Her lips parted in a gasp
Wind blew her hat, blew her hair
I went below the surface
Beyond anyone's grasp
Sunlight faded, darkness crowned
I closed my eyes and slowly drowned.
