you dont have to hear it to know it

I have said ‘I love you’ plenty of times
I said ‘I love you’ when
I gave you doodles drawn on scraps of paper
Told you I liked your hair even when it fell over your eyes and itched your neck
Held onto the handle of your old backpack in the halls
Bought you coffee just to see you smile
Held your bags when your hands were full
Looked into your eyes and told you they were beautiful
Hugged you tight after a long night
Sent you a game to play in your least favorite class
Laughed at your stupid jokes so you wouldn't be embarrassed
And I say it every day with, “goodmorning” and “goodnight”
‘I love you’ is not always shown through these words,
But with my little gestures that let you know I will always be there for you
Whether I am a shoulder to cry on
or a person to widen your eyes at while passing by
I will always say ‘I love you’
Even if you don’t say it back

About this poem
