Fishing

You taught me how to fish.
Not for your heart as I would have wanted.
I love you unconditionally; not what you could accept.
You said you had to let it sink in a few seconds; then reel it in.
Make sure the spinner was spinning just right!
I let it sink too long and it got caught in your throat.
You said that was wrong and would kill the fish.
It killed and our love died.
The spinner was always caught in your throat;
Even though you tried to deny it.
You were always looking for the line to free you.
