SANDS OF OBLIVION

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

The red sands of oblivion
Burn with the sun's great heat,
Melting rubber soles on shoes
Scorching naked feet.

Eerie creatures are lurking
Within the red desert sands,
Slyly watching all who pass
Since before time ever began.

Oblivion is our future
The future of every person,
When the sands of time run out
You know your race is run.

Foul creatures lurking near
Hiding within oblivion's sands,
Waiting for a chance to pounce
On unsuspecting woman or man.

Old Man Time uses the sand
To fill up our hour glasses,
So he can decide when to end
Our lives, as our time passes.

Each day that we live
Leaves us with one day less,
Going through the veil of tears
Until we have no time left.

The red sands of oblivion
Burn like Hell's own fires,
Counting down our lives until
At last, our life expires.

THE END
