Broken

Watching, helplessly, as you break into pieces before me, is a hurt too painful to fully describe in words. I wished that I were stronger, not to cry in front of you, to be your rock, and to burden the pain that you cannot share. I wished that I could trade places, take her place and erase the agonising memory so freshly etched into your mind. I wished to rid you of your heartbreak, or better yet for her sickness to evaporate and disappear. But my wishes are wishful, my heart shattered, as I fumble to protect you from an inevitable foe that has little regard for me. We are both broken.
