En ce rugueux hiver où le soleil flottant
S'échoue à l'horizon comme une lourde épave,
J'aime à dire ton nom au timbre lent et grave
Quand l'horloge résonne aux coups profonds du temps.

Et plus je le redis, plus ma voix est ravie
Si bien que de ma lèvre, il descend dans mon coeur,
Et qu'il réveille en moi un plus ardent bonheur
Que les mots les plus doux que j'ai dits dans la vie.

Et devant l'aube neuve ou le soir qui s'endort
Je le répète avec ma voix toujours la même
Mais, dites, avec quelle ardeur forte et suprême
Je le prononcerai à l'heure de la mort !
