I am a leaf

I am a leaf
When I am assured that I am valid,
I produce vibrant green hues, so the world can gaze at my beauty.
When showed that I am worth something meaningful,
The rainwater of yesterday's storm tastes of sweet sweet nectar.
When given unconditional love,
I produce the sweet oxygen that fuels the environments on this earth.

I am a leaf
When the sense of security starts to feel doubted,
My green healthy hues shift
When their love starts to feel questioned,
The warm reassuring kisses of the sun's rays start to feel cold.
When my love starts to feel used,
The strong bond to my support starts to weaken.

I am a leaf
When the once warm breeze turns frigid,
My vibrant colors go stale.
When the doubts become too much,
The once nutritious water starts to taste sour.
When stripped of the love I once thought I had,
The strong bond of my stem snaps, and I begin to fall.

I was a leaf.
The warnings of winter were always there,
I was too distracted by the treatment of the warmth,
To see the signs of what's to come.
I somehow convinced myself that this year might be different.
But just like every year,
Summer never lasts forever.
