The Elysian Dawn

There is a dawn,
That will relieve our slumber,
The chance to face our friends,
No reliance on a number.
Long walks along the sand,
The places you promised to explore,
An opportunity to escape,
Freedom past your front door.
Smiles spread across their faces,
Dear loved ones have returned,
Unity is one,
For their awards are well earned.
We regain our salvation,
No reason left to mourn,
Our journey has resumed,
As a new dawn is born.

About this poem

This poem captures the frustration of the Covid-19 isolation period and the hope that there will indeed be an end to such madness. The belief that there is going to be better things waiting for us, after this pandemic. I touched upon the lives of the families of soldiers and students who are waiting for their loved ones to return home. I wrote this during the early months of 2021 during a major surge in the UK Coronavirus numbers.
