I am but one person

As I sit in silence with the tears of the sky falling. The raw emotion of sadness engulfs me leaving me gasping for air. I can not stand for I am white. I carry the shame of a thousand people.  I am cold and I am  damp but I don't want to feel warmth . I want to feel and live in the uncomfortable cold .  My tears that I struggle to hold back still find a way to sneak down my cheeks.  I am overwhelmed with the emotions of thousands of hurt souls beside me. I am but one person, but I feel you, I hear you. I will not turn a blind eye towards you.  Your pain is now my pain, it can not be removed.  I  will keep your pain, your anguish, your tears. I will keep these unfathomable feelings forever, never to be buried with the past. I am but one person,  and I promise you my  children and their children and their grandchildren will keep these feelings alive so the world knows the pain and the suffering that your ancestors and you have endured are brought to light, so the evil of this world will never be bestowed upon you and others ever again......   For I am  one  white person  and I will stand for you!
