DARK SOUL OF THE NIGHT

The dark soul of the night
Envelopes all living things,
Filling them with terror
At what the darkness brings.

The dark soul is the enemy
Of all human beings,
Filling their head with visions
Of myriad monstrous fiends.

Devoid of all pleasure
Still, you try to struggle on,
Then night's dark soul tells you
That your last hope is gone.

The dark soul of the night
Brings your nightmares ever near,
Nothing you love is around you
Only everything you fear.

Loathsome dreams of madness
Fill your every waking thought,
Till your remaining sanity
Has been reduced to naught.

The dark soul of the night
Can murder an innocent heart,
Taking it in its night-black hands
Then tearing it apart.

Monstrous dreams torment you
Morbid fantasies fill your head,
Longing for loves long past
Hoping soon to be dead.

The dark soul of the night
Rears up like a deadly snake,
Filling your head with nightmares
Even when you're wide awake.
