THE MALEVOLENT TOWN

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

The malevolent town is calling
The guileless to come out this way,
To not be afraid of the darkness
And not hide indoors until day.

This evil place sends out a call
For the gullible and the naive,
To throng there like it's summertime
And not mere days from Walpurgis Eve.

This evil town has evil creatures
Which prowl around the place,
Out into the dreary moonless night
Where the wicked town is never safe.

Protracted screams filling the air
As carnivores first kill then feast,
Within the boundaries of the town
Within the malignant streets.

Omnivores are prowling out late
Hoping very soon to feed,
By chasing down lone innocents
To fulfill their carnal needs.

The malevolent town is calling
Offering false hope to the hopeless,
Trying its best to draw them in
Along with the lost and the homeless.

It provides no shelter or hope though
For the people living outside,
It's a grim place for anyone to live
A town where only losers reside.
