Why are you single?

Why are you single?
People say to me,
I'm single by choice,
Is it that hard to believe?!

I'm not looking for love,
If it happens it happens,
But until then,
Its single I choose.

It would take someone amazing,
To change how I feel,
Someone worth having,
To shield me from pain.

I love with all my heart,
But I need protection,
I can't always be the strong one,
And pretend it's ok.

I've been hurt so much,
I've had my head messed up,
I don't need that life,
That's for a start.

I've had a few relationships,
I'm not proud to say,
But all I've wanted,
Was to settle down some day.

Please don't ask me to change,
I tried that before,
It made me feel lonely,
Like nothing mattered at all.

I lost most of my friends,
I stood there alone,
I felt the earth shatter,
Like you stumble and fall.

I've now learned to adjust,
I've learned from mistakes,
I'm up off my knees,
But I've already quit.

When the time is right,
And I have that protection,
When I'm sure that it's alright,
I'll be ready to fight.

I'm a one woman's woman,
Always have, and will be,
But until that day,
I'll stay on my knees.

When I have that protection,
And that reassurance I need,
When I trust you don't break it,
Because its not what you need.

Until that day comes,
I'm single by choice,
I'm not looking for love, so....
Don't ask me, It's my choice.
