Be You The First

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

Be you the first,
To show you know respect.
And be you the first,
With a dignity had and nothing less.

Don't ever let yourself be a doubters.
To have this detected.
Since many are determined to find,
Identities and minds lost...
Found defected.

Stay proud of the who you are.
Diversified, capable and qualified.
And with each step.
Yes.
No matter what you flaunt is rejected.

Dare to be the first.
Hallelujah!
Dare to be the first.
Say 'Amen'.
You can dare to be the first.
To shout a Hallelujah.
You can dare to be the first.
'Amen'.

Stay proud of who you are.
With each step made to be witnessed.
Since many are determined to find,
Identities lost and not to be missed.

Dare to be the first.
You can.
Dare to be the first.
Yes you can.
Dare to be the first.
Hallelujah!
You can dare to be the first.
To say 'Amen'.

Strut your stuff.
And...
Strut your stuff.
As if you can't get enough of it to strut.
Yeah!
Strut your stuff.
Dare to be the first.
To strut your stuff.
Dare to be the first.
You can.
Dare to be the first!
Be you the first.

Never fear to be just who you are!

'But...
I can't dance!'

Dance?
Life to live it is the only dance,
We get to experience and live!
However...
Learn whatever it takes for you,
To keep up with this rhythm given...
That expresses your life to live it!
And don't try.
Be committed.
