The Country I call home

Tammara Cappellano 1958 (Vancouver, Wa)

The country I call home

With the state our Country’s in
These thoughts ran through my mind
Nothing is the same today
That’s good that I could find.

Keep your eyes on Government
And keep your ears wide open;
Listen to the words they say
And promises they’ve spoken.

See if government keeps its word
To those like you and me
Or if the people running us
Don’t care for those in need.

Don’t let the White House teach you hate
Or divide us as a State.
Tax breaks for the wealthiest,
For the poor? High Interest Rates

Our country can be great again,
And a place where we can say
I’m proud that I’m American
I'm Proud in every way.

How do we change the way we live
Schools taught us of our rights;
When government turns its back on you
Then it’s our time to fight!

Tomorrow is what matters now.
So our kids will have a future;
It’s up to us to show them how.
So their lives can be much richer.

About this poem

I wrote this poem this year when there was horrible leadership of our beloved country. It seems we nolonger see the "Bigger Picture" anymore.
