With a serpent's end

Mark Cloutier 1972 (Kaneohe)

With a serpent's end
It is bitten by the head
As the tail spins
It flips over
Til it returns again
Then we leave
And as we return
We burn eternal
As lights and stars
Fall in the immense
Of darkness and the outer
Of a world within
That falls to its axis
And then begins
Without an end
With a word heard
In the corridors
And halls of darkness
As the light subsides
And the candle of time
Goes out in the night
As the future
Becomes the past
And we leave at last
