Superman

SUPERMAN

WHEN I WAS JUST A YOUNG BOY
MY DAD WAS SUPERMAN

HE WAS MY HERO,
BIGGER THAN LIFE
AND I'M HIS BIGGEST FAN

HE HAD NO FLAWS
HE WAS PERFECT
SAMSON WAS NOT AS STRONG

THE WORDS HE’D SPEAK WERE ALWAYS TRUE
HE COULD NEVER BE WRONG

I FELT I WAS SO LUCKY
AND BLESSED WITH WHAT I HAD

OF ALL THE KIDS IN THE WHOLE WORLD
SUPERMAN WAS MY DAD

AND THEN AS I GREW OLDER
HEROS WOULD COME AND GO

AS ALL OF THEIR FLAWS AND WEAKNESSES
SLOWLY BEGAN TO SHOW

YET EVEN THOUGH MY DAD IS GONE
I'M STILL HIS BIGGEST FAN

HE’S STILL A HERO, BIGGER THAN LIFE

HE IS STILL SUPERMAN

About this poem

I wrote this poem about my father after he passed away back in 2010. It's about a boy, who like most boys see their father as Super Hero's when they are young. Yet, as they grow older, they come to realize that their fathers are human beings, with human flaws and weaknesses like everyone else.
