Single Seed Falls

Jayson McGowan 1973 (Amarillo)

Single seed falls
The mightiest of its kind
Struggling to take hold
Searching for what will bring life
Trampled on
Pushed further down
Below the ground
It takes shelter in its surroundings
Laying dormant
At the mercy of others
Her very existence questionable.
Rain drops fall
Everything around her
Absorbs all there is
Leaving just a taste
Enough to maintain
Keeping her alive for the moment.
Fire comes
Clearing everything that took from her
Choked her.
She's protected by the earth
Sustained by what little she has left.
Rain comes providing Nourishment
Life
HOPE for her spirit.
She breaks from her shell
Inching her way to the surface
That has held her down so long
Slowly rising above
Just enough to see the sky
The light that she's been needing.
Stronger now, she fights
Not dependent on others
Held down by everyone around  She Fights for nourishment
Fights for Life
Returning to the HOPE she lost.
Even stronger now she digs deeper
Settling her roots deep around her
Taking hold of what's new.
Protecting herself
Protecting her new life
Shooting towards the sun
Grabbing each of its rays with her arms
Absorbing moisture from the rain
With each of her hands.
Her canopy blossoms outward
Upward
Filling the space around her
Reaching in every direction
Grasping this new life
With all she has
She's the mightiest of her kind
A single seed fell
