Enemies with No Faces

I can’t see them but they see me.
I cannot hide, my skin glows bright.
The brown.
The melanin.
My roots.
All eyes are on me.
Their ears are perked.
They wonder of the vibrato in my voice.
No hands in my pocket.
That rule is first.
Eyes front.
Head on a swivel.
Watching my, 12-3-6 and 9.
They wonder of my hair.
Puzzled by the texture.
I have heard the lectures.
Do what’s right.
But right doesn’t stop my plight.
I have enemies with no faces.
They’re watching me.
They see me as I’m not.
I’m a drug dealer.
I’m a thug.
I’m a gang member.
I’m ghetto.
Welfare and ignorant lingo.
I have enemies with no faces.
They smile in my face.
Behind close doors,
they plot my demise.
They write it in books.
They put it in ledgers.
Perhaps, in dockets.
Nothing I do can stop it.
They call them laws.
To erase my rights.
My rights become
I’m wrongs,
The wrong move and I’m gone.
I have enemies with no faces.
I don’t belong.
This land is your Land.
This land is their land?
Bankrolling from a hue hand.
Blood of my elders,
fertilized this land.
I have enemies with no faces.
