Sometimes
As I lay alone in my bed at night
I pretend you are here,
Next to me
My head neatly tucked into your chest
Your arms wrapped tight around my shoulders
Pulling me in
Our legs intertwined
I gaze upon your resting face
Admiring how calm you are
I feel protected
secure
Even if it’s just for a few short moments
They’re important to me
More than sex and kissing could ever be
I just want to be held by you
To know that once I awake I’ll be in the presence of someone who cares for me instead of pillows, silence, and empty space
But that’s not happening
Our opportunity has expired
And all I have is my dreams and imagination
