The Light Of Day

Paul Winn 1959 (California)

Standing on this lonely deck
a ship that's lost at sea
a voyage that takes me far beyond
life's harsh reality
the sky is dark and full of fear
of never finding home
I don't think I can stand the strain
to sail this ship alone
sometimes I think I see you
in the flicker of a light
far off on the horizon
and fading out of sight
It's so hard to remember
when I had you by my side
but the love that keeps me going
in no way can be denied
so I push on
and search for land
though it's no where in sight
there's just this cold and lonely sea
of never ending night
I'm growing very tired
I feel I won't prevail
my flares have all been fired
no wind to fill my sail
I feel I'm lost forever
I'll never find my way
it seems like such a long time
since I've seen The Light Of Day

About this poem

I wrote this poem back in 1983, I can't find a copy of it so this is off memory. I think part of it is missing but this is the best i can do.
