A Lonely Ramble

I went today on a lonely ramble
Not normally so when I solo amble?
But the thoughts of you not at this place
As I pass where we were first face to face
Makes each step heavy and with delay
Climbing higher and higher into dismay

The hill it seems extra sheer
Without your hand guiding me near
Each step a burden I miss your smile
Legs heavy carrying my heart's turmoil
I reach the summit and breathe in the view
Turning, I pause, I can't share it with you?

But I've made this journey for us both
So I'll spend the time we'd surely devote
I think of you as though by my side
My emotions beginning to turn the tide
I hug the air and kiss the warm Sun
Knowing you and I will always be one

About this poem

It's about returning to a place where two people had first met and the sadness of being there again without them. Yet, the strength of their bond overcoming such sadness in the end.
