TO DIE IN DARKNESS

To die in darkness is nobody's intent
And yet your death may be pre-ordained,
In this universe of broken promises
When hope and dreams are not maintained.

In a world that is lost to darkness
Still, we all hope to live in the light,
And not to have to cower indoors
At the mere mention of twilight.

With the whole world on fire,
Burning from human apathy,
We hope to learn to live once more
Surrounded in our family's empathy.

To die alone is no-one's dream
And yet so many people die alone,
Lost in the modern judgmental world,
Where originality is almost unknown.

Living day-to-day out in the cold
In a cruel world that has rejected them,
Tossed out like garbage long ago
Unable to climb back up again.

To die in darkness is nobody's wish
Yet it seems wishes do not come true,
And so life often ignores good people
Men, women, children - me and you?
