Of Clouds and Ships

See there the ghostly galleon
drifting o’er the azure sea
sailing for an unknown port
on shores unknown to me

How often has it sailed before
upon  the vastness unexplored?
And it will sail how many more
before the sails are lowered?

Perhaps it goes to join a fleet
of ghostly galleons like itself
and in a hidden cove to meet
and unite against the land.

It will not be  white but gray,
this ghostly armada, when it sails
with battle flags on full display
and cannons at the rails.

Sailing dark and menacing o'er head
with cannons roaring in loud refrain,
showering  down not stinging  lead
just  welcome drops of rain.
