Pretty Eyes

Speak

Is it the blood on my hands?
Is it the dirt on my feet?

Why must one be
so happy,
so alone,
but somehow free?

Free like the breeze.
Free like a lemon growing on a tree.

Fall
Trip
Die
That’s how close I am to getting by.

The thing is I’m not.

Please
Why can’t you see.

Pretty eyes
Just look at me.

A lie is like a dream,
A memory in the book of secrets you keep.

Was it meant to be?

I don’t know
You tell me

Envision a light.
What does it say?

“Help me please.
Everything’s gray.
Black and white,
stuck in the prison of my own mind.
How could you decline an offer like mine?”

Is it a trick?
A false sense of hope?

The questions I have
are rhetorical at most.

At the end of the day,
that’s what the voices say.

This will be the last time I betray.

Pretty eyes.
Look at me.

I beg
Why can’t you see?

Please pretty eyes
just set me free.

:)
