Suspicious Truth
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
Today we live in times to find,
People who are honest...
With no intention to deceive,
Or lie to anyone.
Will have who they are disbelieved.
Distrusted and suspected,
For doing 'something' others make up.
And...
When people like this,
Admit a doing of dirt and some nasty stuff.
To do this and volunteer where it is
To dig up.
With copies of that dirt,
Documented.
And prepared to pass around?
Done to prove of truth and evidence,
Of it given. Dirt and all!
No one expects...
The dirt to be first anxiously exposed.
'What is being promoted here?
Identity, integrity, credibility or...
Something more outrageous.'
'Like what?
Honesty?
And the pride of having it?'
'Why would anyone today be that honest?
When being a liar who deceives,
Is far more intriguing than its ever been.'
'Well...
The dude is old school.
And what was done back then to shock?
These days?
Would be too childish and boring,
To keep pre-school children interested.
The kids of today are packing weapons.
And 'weed' to smoke at recess,
When and if they begin to feel stressed!'
'You and your exaggerations.'
'I know.
And I remember,
When they were considered to be...
Sarcastic and cynical.
Nonconforming, blasphemous.
And,
My personal favorite...
Unpatriotic and treasonous,
To the wholesome American way of life!'
'Wow.
You have got to be kidding?
Just how old are you?'
'Hey.
Those comments were made,
Around wine sipping pretentious keepers.
A few years ago.
You know...
The same folks now blaming themselves,
For everything they accused...
And blamed me for.'
'You?
Why you?
'Look at me.
What do you notice first?'
'An aire of confidence.
Arrogance and a clef chin.'
'I'm talking about something very obvious.'
'I'm not looking down there.
You and see.
That's all you have on your mind.'
'Is it?
Or is it made convenient today,
For you to make it obvious?'
'You and your...
Double entendres!'
'My what?
You all up in my business now, huh?
Enjoy but don't touch.'
'You know...
We started 'there' to end up 'here!'
'B.S.
We started 'HERE' and YOU,
Took it 'THERE' for reasons left to imagine.'
'I am no curious metroplexer.'
'Admissions.
Taunting my innocent way of life.
