BROKEN PIECES

Billy Helmick 1972 (indiana)

I looked in the mirror and all I could see was a thousand broken pieces staring right back at me. All of those pieces laid on the ground, so I picked them all up and moved them around. as I put them together I could finally see, a broken old image that use to be me. The man that I was, not this man that I am, so I'll reach down inside and find him again. I'll pick myself up and dust myself off, I'll hold my head high so I never get lost. Through all of the struggles and all of the fights, broken up pieces are just part of life. Memories made in each little piece, some jagged and sharp, to say the least. but without all those pieces, the image we see, without one little piece, it just wouldn't be me.
