Blackhole Sadness
Blackhole Sadness
Deep within the throes of sadness,
Leaning over the pits of madness.
Dark despair that echoes on,
From all the days I thought were gone.
An addict overdue a fix,
I need to fill this empty mix.
A blackhole has formed inside my soul,
Swallowing all hope that kept me whole.
A tidal wave of tears is chasing me down.
Run fast as I can before I hit the ground.
Overcome and drowning quick,
My head spinning to make me sick.
It hurts to even breathe right now,
Pain so deep should not be allowed.
Yearning for just one ray of light,
Just one voice to make things right.
The voice that will whisper in my ear,
Sweet words of Love I long to hear.
Why do I shiver when away from You too long?
Why do I feel my life's gone wrong?
Too undeserving to ever be kissed.
A Lover's touch is sorely missed.
Things others take for granted so,
I dearly regret to see it go.
Holding hands, breath on my cheek,
A smile of Love and my knees go weak.
With Love too long away from my side,
It feels like everything in my world has died.
This is what sadness makes me feel.
This is the pain for me that's real.
Who saves the Knight, when things have gone wrong?
Who rides in on white horses when he's not strong?
I await my Princess to save the day,
And take this unending chasm away.
Until then I grit my teeth and apply my smile,
Never letting anyone know my tears, hidden all the while.
Until with Her I will smile Evermore,
With Love and Joy I lay at her Heart's door.

About this poem
Stephen wrote this poem while lonely and yearning for love. His depression always seemed to him as if it was a black hole that he could not escape from and sucked in everything else in his life, the good and the bad. Despite his pain and loneliness, his eternal optimism always has to include an ending with a note of hope. For without hope, we are lost. Stephen did eventually admit he had a problem with depression and was able to get help through counseling and medication.
