The Fight

I’ve struggled with addiction,
For most of my life.
I have let down my children.
It has cost me my life.

How was I to know,
it would end this way?
There was so much more,
That I had left to say.

I never told my parents,
Thanks for raising me,
For showing me love,
In my time of need.

I never told my friends,
Thanks for your support,
You all stood by me,
When all I did was hurt.

I never told my children,
How proud I am of them.
If I could live my life all over,
I wouldn’t touch drugs again.

The battle finally came,
And I lost my fight.
All those tears you shed,
Just doesn’t seem right.

I apologize to you all,
For my addictive ways,
For the nights you stayed up crying,
And the never ending days.

When you think of me,
Try not to feel sad.
Because the love from you,
Was the best high that I had.
