My Friend, Red

Oh! My friend, “Red”!

Your curtains are always swaying
Elegantly playing
With my eyes

I want to see you everyday
You always take my breath away
We are in love, I surmise

Oh! My friend, “Red”!

I have seen you so many times
You kiss me and leave some dimes
Just like many times before

You left marks on my face
And when we intimately embrace
I kept coming back for more

Oh! My friend, “Red”!

Your host is so very happy
Keeping you on show so very proudly
Pleased to have you as their partner

All year round, across the world
Red has become a favourite colour word
Do you ever get out of fashion, I wonder

Oh! My friend, “Red”!

Imagine, what would you do
If they swapped you for green, black, or blue?
Could we live another day?

They are cunning, they are greedy
They want to be loved and they are needy
You are a role model, one could say

Oh! My friend, “Red”!

You create “blood moons”, a spectacle
Incredible and fantastical
Would you teach your magic to me?

Around town, when I ride you
Double-decker, straight to the top view
Like flying, I feel so free

Oh! My friend, “Red”!

You tempt, you are vivid
Without you, I would be livid
I take a juicy bite

You escape, you protect me
With your trillion soldier army
When I am in a bad fight

Oh! My friend, “Red”!

Now and then when I am stuck here
You are still loyal, staying very near
Dripping slowly, helping my heart to beat

They say nine lives for cats
But for me, one is the max
So I hope in my life we continue to meet

Oh! My friend, “Red”!

You are rich, superb and sumptuous
You are delicious and scrumptious
Covered on our hot dogs and with our chips

You are laid out for celebs or royalty
They praise you for your loyalty
And smother you on their lips

Oh! My friend, “Red”!

Without you, Rudolph would not be special
Angels would not protect us from the devil
We need you to stay irreplaceable

Signs would not catch our attention
And even when given an honourable mention
You should not be effaceable

Oh! My friend, “Red”!

Logos would miss you dearly
The connotations, they would cry sincerely
And give anything to get you back

Meanings would be lost forever
Time travel needed and someone clever
But, surely, there must be a hack?

Oh! My friend, “Red”!

Sadly, some cannot see you
They have very little clue
How I feel when we meet eye-to-eye

They can feel you, so be gentle
They can sense you, do not be judgemental
And wish them the best when they say “Goodbye”

Oh! My friend, “Red”!
