Worthy Shame

The weight on my chest,
The tears and the pain,
No place to undress,
Hiding in shame.

The past is no more,
Our future not seen,
Is your love sure?
Or fading unclean?

Your time is not mine,
I’m not worthy of it,
My heart cannot shine,
Please, not another hit.

Seemingly innocent,
Your words cut in deep,
The wound we’ll resent,
If love doesn’t keep.

You say the right things,
But your eyes wander lost,
To hope I daren’t cling,
For high is the cost.
