For My Brother

Will Scarlet 1946 (NJ)

Ode

With a 10 cent memo pad
And a number 2 pencil
My Brother left me a stencil
A blueprint for his blues

And all I ever taught him
Was how to tie his shoes...

Short, beautiful, and full of emotion. The image is crystal-clear and so sad.

I find family dynamic to be interesting. I remember when my mom's brother died (god rest both their souls) and how she was perfectly fine with it. In fact, she told me that he was the lucky one. Wow! Mom wasn't exactly thrilled to be upright before she moved into the next phase. I'm grateful for people like you with stories to tell. I find them fascinating. That you've been writing for 50+ years is extraordinary to me. Thank you for sharing.
