Mama

joe Swindell 2053 (Miami, Fl.)

Mama, I love you

I stepped in the phone booth. The light, was out
I shook my head, I wanted to shout
I closed my eyes, and leaned, on the wall
I picked up the phone, but never made a call
I said, mama I love you
This hurts deep, down inside
And, then I cried
Mama, I love you
I feel so alone
I said, I miss you, mom
And, I hung up, the phone
Oh, there was so much more that, I wanted to say
I closed the door, to the phone booth, and walked away
Mama , gave me her love, and I carry it, still.
I’ll give it back when, I find her, somewhere over the hill
The bougainvilleas,  are blooming. The flowers,  wet with the dew
Those, flowers are constant!  And they remind me, of you
I picked up the phone. But, never made the call
I closed my eyes,  and leaned, on the wall
I said, mama I love you
This hurts deep, down inside
And,  I cried,  mama, I love you
I feel so alone. I said, I miss you, mom
And, I hung up, the phone
There was so much more that, I wanted to say
I closed the door, to the phone booth, and walked away
Mama, gave me her love, and I carry it, still.
I’ll give it back when, I find her
Somewhere, over the hill
