A Broken Limb

During the plague in isolation
A limb fell from the family tree.
Sudden, the crack shattered hearts
filling our lives with a mournful debris.

No repairs can be made,
no new growth is the same.
A void and a hollow
where connection once laid.

The way the wind moves us,
snowflakes we catch
everything's different
without that tree branch.

One day I'll feel grateful
the limb nourishes our roots
for the life in the hollow
that are lasting tributes.

Right now it's the absence
from that awful detach
and grief for that limb
from which we all branched.

About this poem

My father had written a request that this poem: A limb has fallen from the family tree. I keep hearing a voice that says, "Grieve not for me. Remember the best times, the laughter, the song. The good life I lived while I was strong." be read at his funeral. My poem is based off that.
