STRONG BLACK WOMAN

JaQuiondia Banks 1990 (MILWAUKEE, WI)

Strong Black Woman
As I look in the mirror, my reflection says to me,
“You are strong, resilient, and self-sufficient
Do not tare yourself down and do not tell yourself anything different
An imminent change will eventually occur
Your smile will be bright from the pain you endured
Do not be ambivalent to the circumstances
Life has its ups and downs, but you must take chances
You have been through the storm, yes, I know
When the storm end you will see a bright rainbow
When you look back when it is all said and done
You will be proud of yourself from all you overcome
So, when you are down on yourself, remember these words from me
You are a strong black woman, a strong black woman you claim to be
A STRONG BLACK WOMAN, YES, THAT IS ME!!!”
