The Dark

It's just you,
And me,
And the dark.

It wraps around us,
Pretending to be a friend,
Pretending to be a hug.

Dark tendrils grab your leg,
They're attached to things,
Things hiding in the fold we can't see.

It holds us tight,
Keeps us prisoner,
As the folds bear ever closer.

It smothers us,
It chokes the air out,
Leaving us gasping.

It wants to know you,
It wants to know me,
It wants us.

It's just you.
And me.
