What a Wonderful World

I opened my eyes,
Sun shined upon me like the grace of God,
I closed my eyes to embrace the warmth,
And I heard nature playing a melodious song,
A symphony how can I ever ignore,
Felt like Mozart playing a beautiful score,
But I said to myself that I must rise,
A new day is on me, I’m going to shine as bright,
So, I rose from the bed and went to a park,
It must have been my smile or my spark,
A birdie came to me and said “I feel like you’re the child of God,
You’re radiating the grace accessible to only the ones who are bless-ed by the hands of the lord,
Don’t give this up no matter what,
Because you my friend are spreading smiles by a lot”,
As the bird flew by, I thought to myself,
In this perfect world,
No pain no suffering,
Everyone is happy,
Everyone is discovering,
What they love and what they like,
In themselves, as the world helps with all its might,
As the world sings ‘ode to joy’,
Beethoven’s 9th symphony let us all enjoy,
The flowers, the birds,
The winds, the ferns,
All singing the melody,
What a wonderful world.

As I sat down, only for a moment,
I closed my eyes and everything was crooked,
I was embraced by darkness and couldn’t find light,
Something was just not feeling right,
I somehow felt the sorrow and pain I couldn’t feel before,
I woke up to a place I hardly recognize,
To my phone making an excruciating sound,
There was no melody, no symphony, Mozart was nowhere to be found,
I closed my eyes, just 10 more minutes I said,
I just remembered my whole day ahead,
I cannot open my eyes and face this world,
Where happiness had to be found,
And is not around,
But I knew no matter how much I ponder,
There were things even if I hate, had to be done before the week ended,
I might not know what happiness means,
But I’m the best in my company to feed these data in the excel sheets,
Somehow, I heard a voice as it asked me,
“What is it that makes you happy”,
I thought but couldn’t find the answer, so I asked,
Ohh mighty one, can you help me unmask,
The secret of this rare feeling called happiness,
And he replied in an orderly tone,
“Thou shalt love thyself, then only thou shalt find happiness”,
Love myself, that’s not too bad,
Just find 10 things that don’t make you sad,
About yourself, so I started making a list,
I couldn’t even find a single thing,
Something must have been missed,
So, I asked the wise man again,
Can you show me what did you wrote?
I’ll write the same and call it mine,
Then he replied in a furious tone,
“no, you idiot, it must be something of your own,
Something that you’re proud of,
Something that you’ve cherished and grown,
Something unique only to you and you alone,”
After listening I burst into laughter,
I laughed,
I laughed,
and I laughed so hard,
To think I held this man in such high regard,
Hey you, let me tell you something about this world,
You are a sheep and people around you are shepherd,
You run with the pack and do what they do,
You don’t run wild or else they’ll crush you like an ant under a shoe,
He replied, “my friend the thing you seek,
Happiness, this way, can only be found in your dreams,
Now I shall bid you farewell,
As you’re not the one I was searching for,
You’re just an empty shell,”
Wait a minute I shouted as I trembled,
Please tell me how can I escape this pain I so resemble,
Tell me this is all a dream and it will go away,
Tell me If I close my eyes will I be back in the world I saw today?
But it was too late he had already left,
I screamed and cried as I held my hand on my chest,
As I wiped my tears, I said to myself, this is wrong,
I’m definitely going back to the world where I belong,
I closed my eyes and opened them with a smile,
Nothing happened, nothing changed,
I did the same thing hoping this must have to be the end of my trial,
Yet I opened my eyes and the pain was still there,
Every time I opened my eyes I was filled with despair,
WHY?
WHY?
WHY?
WHY?
Why am I not waking up from this bad dream?
At that moment, a voice filled with darkness said to me,
“You have to permanently close your eyes to wake up it seems”,
Ohh, I see it was just a nightmare Afterall,
What I have to do is just close my eyes in a way I’ll never open them that’s all,
I stepped on the ladder and put the rope around my neck,
I pushed the ladder and grasped for my breath,
Finally, the pain was gone,
I was going back to the place where I belong,
Though I had a smile,
I don’t know why they kept calling my name and started to cry,
I kept shouting, guys, I’m free of this nightmare and can finally fly,
To the place where happiness was not found,
But was around,
Where there is no pain no suffering,
Where everyone is happy and,
Everyone discovering,
The flowers, the birds,
The winds, the ferns,
All singing the melody,
What a wonderful world.
