Dark is not the Darkest

Can you see the inky swirling darkness
With every bit of hope twice is the loss
Another shade of darkness settles in.  
Dark is not the darkest, you find out
With each broken heart and sad moment
Another layer of infringing darkness falls upon you
Deeper and deeper you sink into obscurity
You call for help but nothing escapes
The blackness which is now your abode.
Soon others begin to leave you one by one
You don't see this in the depths of blackness
Time to rest and take my place in the darkness
