I Was Ready

She came to me on wings of silken gold.
Yeah it be in a dream of 48 hours, I was ready.
Her face was that of Aphrodite, I was surely ready.
A body of pure polished marble
Adorned with a flowing white toga of no mortal seamstress.
So beautiful, so serene.
I could only stand frozen in the glow of her father’s light
Which she bore from heaven.
The quiet was deafening and love unquestionable.
No language was needed no misinterpretation possible.
I was permitted an audience so closer I drew.
The warmth was comforting.  Then I noticed.
The pain of mortals, so horrid I bear, was suddenly gone.
I was on my way!  I looked at her face,
The dark hair about her shoulders and soft glow about her face.
But this time her eyes gazed not at me.
I wandered why.  Then she turned
Slowly fading into the light which was now gone.
My heart broken, my sole questioning.
Pain like a weight of a thousand stone
perched upon my shoulders. It had returned.
My purpose on earth was not complete.
Head in my hands, tears on the boards beneath my feet.
My purpose was not yet complete.
