The Minions of Logic

Three minions of logic
True digits of fiber
Tried to make sense
Of our ability to cipher
For they knew our illogic
In action and deed
Proved beyond doubt
Common sense we did need
So they sat to discuss
This mystery before them
The conversation went thus
In this numerical forum

--------------------

Said the One to the Two
Then the two to the Three
I wonder how
Some humans see

They haven’t the sense
To open their eyes
They can’t tell truth
From obvious lies

But they see us fine
Said the Two to the One
I wonder how
They get that done

They add us up
With wondrous flair
They subtract and divide us
With the greatest of care

Strange said Three
Strange indeed
That they read us so well
But themselves, misread

Perhaps it’s because
We’re black or we’re white
We’re constant, unchanging
Whether its day or its night

Perhaps said One
Perhaps tis so
Perhaps tis change
Makes their reason go

No, said Two
I can’t see that
It can’t be change
That blinds them to fact

It must be something…..
Something else unseen
That makes their minds drift
So far abeam

They pondered awhile
And then Three finally said
I heard once before
They don’t think with their head

They have something else
Something inexact
That doesn’t use reason
Or recognize fact

They call it a heart
A curious thing
It can’t see clearly
And they say it brings pain

Ahhh! Said the One
It must be that
It must be this thing
That can’t recognize fact

It must be this heart
This frivolous wonder
That makes them stumble
And makes them blunder

I wonder said Two
If truly that’s so
Why would they keep it?
Why not just let it go?

It must provide something
Said the One to the two
Something more than just fact
Something beyond me and you

It must see something
That logic calls treason
It must see with a sight
That goes beyond reason

But how! Cried the Three
Can you have something inside you
That sees with a sight
That frequently blinds you

I really don’t know
Said the One to the two
But I do know this
It’s got to be true

This thoroughly confused them
For they had no reference
For twixt logic and reason
There’s not much difference

But between the heart and the head
There’s a tremendous gap
And it can’t be bridged
By just simple fact

The poor digits tried nobly
But couldn’t explain
Why the heart rules the head
With no obvious gain

They finally concluded
After much talk and ado
That when people see with their heart
They see less, and yet, more too
