Verses for John

Verses For John

You appear in the doorway
More perfect now than ever
Closer and closer
Each step igniting a spark
Your fire consumes me

What magic spell have you cast
That should I close my eyes you appear
Filling my senses with your presence
Oh, to have that same power
That my eyes need not close

Your breath soft in my ear
Your heartbeat against my skin
Like an ancient drum
My soul trembles with desire
Morning too soon arrives

Safe in your embrace each night
Your heartbeat steady, hypnotizing
Tears of joy fall on my pillow
I try not to sleep
For no dream can surpass this reality

Your eyes that burn through to my soul
Can they see the depth of my love
My heart, your prisoner
A life sentence without parole
My punishment is my salvation

The pain begins to subside
Your broken heart begins to heal
Seeking its new guardian
My heart cries out to yours
Trust once more, trust me

Oh Venus, why do you mock me
To bring his heart so close
Yet still out of reach
You’ve no test I won’t face
My love will be vindicated

Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes
A new life within your grasp
Whatever you imagine
You can make happen
Imagine… us

I watch you sleep
Moonlight caressing your skin
I dare not move
And wake the angel before me
My angel

I hear you speak
The world around me falls silent
A more beautiful sound will never be
But for those words I long to hear
Will today be the day? Tomorrow…?

The telephone sits silent, untouched
Fighting the urge to dial his number
Let him miss you enough
And then he will call
Won’t he...?

I hear your voice
Like a warm blanket on a cool night
Surrounding me, comforting
Though far from me
I am in your arms once more

You look at me and time stands still
Your firm hand draws me close
Thunder, lightning, though the sky is clear
The scent of leather fills the air
And we become as one

Desire like a volcano
Rising up from the depths of my soul
Every touch a conflagration
I submit to your will
And I am strong

Flights arrive, flights depart
A week passes as if only a day
Passion shared, discoveries made
Answers unfold, doubts disappear
The future more clear now than ever

Our time together like a dream come true
Yet in an instant we must part
And I die a little each time
How many more goodbyes must I face
As I wait for our life to begin

I look into your eyes
The world around us disappears
I am everything I could hope to be
You are everything I dreamed you’d be
And I never want to look away

Another weekend together
Another step forward
Though I’ve reached the finish line first
I can’t cross it without you
And so I must wait

Tears fall from my eyes
The ache in my heart, so deep
Longing to hear your voice
To feel your touch
To know that I’m the one

Brick by brick your walls begin to crumble
My love, stronger than any stone
I shall never give up this quest
Until I rebuild those walls around us both
And we are as one

Your wounded heart held captive by fear
Afraid to accept what it so desperately seeks
Love beyond measure patiently waits
While you hold my aching heart in your hands
Will you ever let me in?

Everything is the same
Yet everything is different
My heart and my head
Once friends, now adversaries
A dream ends, a nightmare begins

I sit alone on my terrace
A warm autumn breeze blows, yet still I shiver
The crickets chirp, a coyote howls
I glance at the empty chair beside me
This winter will last a long time, I fear

I will forgive you
One day
Someday
For now, I will try to forgive myself
A gift I need to give myself
For in that forgiveness I shall unbind myself
From the past
From you
And give myself the gift of my future
I will then forgive you
No longer love you
No longer hate you
One day
Someday

One word you lack in your life is commitment , it should have been taught to you when you were young and seeing it first hand !
Pity, it is a rare commodity today but it can happen ! Never to late to discover it !

How, exactly, did you come to that conclusion? Correct me if I'm wrong but, to my knowledge, we never met.

I forgot to mention that Free Verse is probably my favorite type of poetry to read and write. I have written only 7 or 8 of them but nothing on this level yet. If you care to find the ones I did write and give me some advice, I'd appreciate it.

Thank you so much. That was the first and, as of now, the only poem I've written. A friend convinced me to try writing more; maybe you'll see something new soon.
I very much enjoyed reading your work. Some of your poems ended abruptly... was that on purpose, or am I just not finding the rest of each?
I've always been fascinated by the way people once spoke and structured their sentences. I'm not an expert, but try to strive for perfect grammar. Having a thesaurus handy helps with finding the perfect words to express an emotion.
I like free verse because the poet is not constrained by the need for a rhyme or the meter.
The only things I would suggest are to write from your heart, don't force the rhyme, and use your thesaurus and a grammar guide to craft your poetry into what you feel is perfect.

I didn't realize that some of the ended abruptly, especially the free verse ones. Please give me an example of a couple of them so I can see what you mean. Yes, that's why I like free verse also. My mind still wants to make it rhyme at times so I need to ready myself each time. I'm a stickler for spelling and I do use a thesaurus when I can't think of anything or I want to use something other than the normal words I use. A grammar guide I never even considered. I'm going to read yours again now. I hope to discover something I missed the first time around.

Damn! That was intense. It had me captivated the entire time. I don't believe I'll ever be able to express myself so elegantly. Maybe in time and maybe in rhyme I'll get to this level.
