JUST A QUESTION

JP. 1948 (United Kingdom)

JUST A QUESTION

As they learn by exemption of the day
They discard the wrong from their right way
And by exception prove some rules
That separates the wise from fools

Yet if this choice be somehow flawed
Some idiosyncrasy ignored
A twisted view seen of their world
What was once straight could now be curved

And in some corner hidden dark
There lies a concept cold and stark
An obscured word or simple deed
Misunderstood by growing seed

Those questions asked so often blunt
A curiosity born of brunt
A thousand answers spring to mind
There is but one they need to find

What is this? Or how is that?
No Mackerel set to catch a sprat
Just straight and honest answer truth
The thirst for knowledge from a youth

So, when they ask from whence they came
And why are we not all the same
Pay heed then to what you heard
Choose well replies of simple word

For if you say you came from here
It may instil some mortal fear
As you point to the place of your abdomen
And note the horror of your children

Their thought that you had swallowed whole
Two small children you won’t console
And all they needed was to know the way
That you took to bring them here today.
