My Mother

Mom and dad and brother and sister,
Make up  a family unit.
But who is the fairest of them all ?
It is spelled MOM, lets declare it !

I am going to talk about my mom
I hope you don't mind.
In 1919, a war bride, she was living a dream,
But leaving her family well behind.

A new country, with much to know,
She seemed lonely to this new found land,
The years would go by, never to return
To her England, her real homeland.

Raising a family, 2 girls and 2 boys
Kept her content and very busy,
Bringing up her family was her brightest joy,
But she was finding in her heart, something was heavy.

I was last of the litter,
So I knew her the best
She was eating her heart out, a friend to like her,
Just one friend that she could be blessed.

That friend did come, a tiny gal named lil
She came everyday for a crumpet and cup of tea
Idle chat the day it did fill,
Always tea and never coffee !

My mom never drove a car,
And never had an outside job,
Would you call that rather bizarre ?
She was a homemaker, loving her work with pleasure.

With old age, it would take it's toil,
My mother's last years were in a one room nursing home.
Her only visitor was me, and why was that ?
The others were too busy in their fast paced world.

Some people in life fall in the cracks,
But one day, she made a profession of faith,
Now she had inner peace ,no one else could bring
And that has made all the difference !

Just to let you know, my mother's name was Gladys,
A regal name, meaning  royalty, a real princess !
But I never even once, heard someone call her that
To go through life, nameless is not right ?
