On The Leaf Edge

john mckiernan 1953 (Australia)

hustled and bustled,pushed around
my beetle friend regains all the lost ground.
a steep hard climb lies just ahead
i have the flu,i'll just watch from my bed.
almost to the top,no stopping him now
a tough little guy,if only i knew how.
a sudden gust, the good work is undone
it all seems too hard,a new climb has begun.
the raindrops come down,a steady stream,
he still pushes on up to fulfill his dream.
could i be you little beetle?
 would you like the flu?
i know what you would say,
 just seeing me in bed.
 ''you can't fill my boots!
 because i have six legs!
