Vanquished

Youthful dreams becoming dusty,
emote cold as midnight stone,
My war worn shining armor rusting,
And me mate...weary to the bone.

As voracious clocks devour the future,
I regret my misplaced trust.
Fought good and countless battles, suffering indignities, most unjust.

We’ve laid down vanquished upon these fields, ebbing life settles an obscure score.
Battle bloodied, limp, dead as sin, the heart is moved no more.

Ancient tears foaming stormy, age drove a sailor's heart aground.
Apologies? None. A scuttled soul...
like driftwood on the beach was found.

We chart elusive landfalls,
Our trusty compass guide,
We fear sea rumors of the serpents, but their existence I denied.
Aweigh all anchors!
My future sailed.
Now moored at dock, doldrums stranded, her engines all have died.

Angry drowning depths surround,
Emotions sunken no longer float,
Through to waters lowest point,  my pride is bottom bound.

A labored holding of the breath, our dreams surf life's turbulent waves, my vest of anti-depth unbuckled, won’t save me in these later days.

Tempest waters down the throat, choke life serene and vivid. Grapple lifeless from my castles moat...the soul no longer livid.

Calm, calm after the storm and face toward Westerly sun. They lower the shell unto rest and elude to a goodly run.
