Home
I don’t know how to say it
but it’s true we belong home.
Home sweet home,
adorned by the garden gnome.

There’s happiness and security
for the family and the children
we are at home kindred,
peace and beauty inherent.

Waking up every morning
like a clockwork
with dawn in the sky
and sun across the windows high.

Days out in school or work
back home time together
Food on the table
Roof on our heads
No misery from hunger
or shivering in the cold.
Home sweet home
as time is old.

Evenings by the fireplace .
Warm in heart and body
Chatting about this and the other
the sun bade bye a while hither
and light fades to usher in the dark night.
Its time for bed in dimmed light
sound sleep and sweet dreams abide.
Home sweet home for all in sight.

Next day the cycle repeats
the same again over and over
home sweet home
bonus of security in tome.

That’s the lot of many
but alas not for all
footsteps in the dark are not far away
distraught mothers battered and pray
drunkard fathers adrift and sway.

Amongst them innocent children aghast
their lives are shattered.
For them Home Sweet Home
is a meaningless natter.
