I Let Her Go

The truth is I let her go
But she still follows me so
I look behind me and there she'll be
Lost and lonely looking at me
She's still scared and still lost
I want to go to her, but at what cost?

I left her behind with a promise to return
But when I crossed that bridge I left it to burn
I long to hug her and tell her you'll be alright
To let her know that she won the fight

I left her in the dark and told her I couldn't stay
Neither one of use would survive living this way
I cut the chains that bound us and left that day
But when I look back, she's never to far away

I left her, today we reunite
Hugging the little me, I whisper
We know longer have to fight
For me to have a future I have to
lose my past
I'm letting her really go at last
I let her know we survived
After all we went through, we are still are alive
No reason to be scared anymore
To the little girl that's me, I close the door.

I absolutely love this poem. I am also at a point in my life where I'm trying to lay my past to rest and this went straight to my heart.
