HIGHWAY TO HELL

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

On the highway to Hell
Old Nick he does ride out,
With demons riding with him
Spreading fear and death about.

Pterodactyls follow him
Flying way overhead,
Hoping for wayward travellers
To feast upon the dead.

Skeletal warriors are riding
Upon choppers beside the Devil,
Hoping for an opportunity
To perpetrate great evil.

On the highway to Hell
Through the red desert sands,
Terror is riding out
Through this evil land.

The Devil spreads the word
That all the good must die,
Dreadful creatures follow him
While overhead foul monsters fly.

The Devil rides out
Spreading trepidation,
Throughout this horrid land
And throughout the nation.

On the highway to Hell
Where only losers travel,
The broken-heart journey
Watching all their hopes unravel.

Fire and brimstone waiting
Just around the bend,
As the devil's expedition
Is coming to an end.
