Night and Love Lost

Minnie Jane King 1952 (Warren County, TN)

Sparkling jewels on the table top,
Twinkling lights down low,
The fan fans out a gentle breeze
Your fading face is all I know.

Just yesterday you held me close
And whispered in my ear.
What of it now, when you are gone,
Who'll whisper sweet words now, my dear?

Play a song for heaven now,
Sing the dirge of hell.
Why sing so loud of love that's lost
That humans know so well?

Jewels that sparkled now are dim,
Lights no longer shine.
Fan's breeze quit fanning long ago,
All that's lost is mine, all mine.
