Seasons pass

You and I were springtime, summer passed us by
Friends again in autumn, but winter’s on the fly.
A friendship surviving a lifetime, its’ boundaries now clearly defined.
For in that space between us we have drawn an invisible line.
It separates two oceans with tides that ebb and flow,
And keeps at bay the passions that once each heart did know.
But hearts and minds may wander where bodies cannot go,
So we stand beside the barrier with only memories on show.
Determination stronger than the yearn to take a chance
Of walking to your table and asking you to dance.
