I have a Girlfriend

I have a girlfriend' that's what you said,
Even after all those days we laid in bed.
'I have a girlfriend and you mean naught
For I have found the girl that makes me want and holds my heart'

'I have a girlfriend and I'd run through the rain,
I'd wait forever, even if it cost me pain'
I'd climb the highest mountain,
I'd fight the greatest fouls,
I'd never break her heart,
The good Lord knows'

'I have a girlfriend' that's what you said
'You mean nothing to me,
You're as good as dead,
Because I've found the one, I'd die for with ease
So just disappear
Please o please.'

'Nothing you did mattered,
The walks nor talks,
The late nights spent trying to unravel my thoughts,
The hi's nor the bye's
The hurt, the confused cries
The effort, the pain
It was all a stupid game.'

'It was too easy to forget,
One week was all it took,
Because now I have a girlfriend,
Look O Look.'
'Hear O hear,
Then bare o bare,
Yet still I know, you'll always be here.'

You have a girlfriend,
And your chest hurts at the sound of my name.
You have a girlfriend,
And I was left to feel the pain and the shame.

I wasn't for the public
I was yours alone
But when the curtains rolled,
She was by your side, in everything,
And where was I?

Now you're back and I can't seem to see,
Me getting over all the pain you've cost me.
But the bigger part that still feels the same,
Still tries to see past this wall of untrust and blame.

I want to move on, it's more of a need,
But I have no idea if I'll ever be able,
If I'll ever be free.
So I wrote this poem
In hopes it'll help,
But all I hear are my sobs and the words,
"I have a girlfriend"
"I have a girlfriend and we were never real"
